Chaka Khan is the name of famous American sonwriter & singer. She had also won the Grammy Award for her singing. She had given the songs like ‘I m Every Woman’, ‘I Feel for You’ & ‘Through the Fire’. The theme song of  ‘Reading Rainbow’ had also given by her.

The singer was born on 23 march,1953 in North Chicago. Her born name was ‘Yvette Marie Stevens’. As her first singing group she had formd a group at the age of 11 called as ‘Crystalletes’. Later on she had joined ‘Afro Arts Theatre’ group when she was in her high school. The name “Chaka” was adopted by her, at the time in Chicago when she worked for ‘Free Breakfast for Children’ program of Black Panthers.

She had left her school in 1969, & then joined the Lyfe group, but soon quit it for joining soul bank ‘The Babysitters’ where she had came ahead of the lead former singer Baby Huey. But for her this project did not prove to be successful & after that she on her own had formed  ‘Rufus’ along with Kevin Murphy & Andre Fischer. Meanwhile she had got married to a bass guitarist Hassan Khan.

With the album ’self titled’ Rufus was started in 173 on ABC label. Even though the album was not able to achieve that much of success still the name of the group got the success as the funk group.
