On Jan. 31st night, Leon Russell the keyboard artist came to Grammy Awards with Zac Brown Band. Russell showed his experience & renowned performances.
In 1942, Leon Russell was born with the name of Claude Russell Bridges in Oklahoma. During his early teenage years, he started his career graph in nightclubs of Tulsa. [smartads]
After coming back to LA, Russell joined Phil Spector’s legendary team of session musicians. Russell gave his performance on a lot of Phil Spector’s largest hits, in addition to that Leon Russell performed on songs by the Byrds, Herb Alpert & others.
Leon Russell’s 1st hits as lyricist was Joe Cocker’s take on “Delta Lady.” Leon came in Cocker’s Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour, after that many people believed that Leon Russell stole the whole show.
When Leon sang medley of Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” & ’50s hit “Young Blood”, then he became the highlight during George Harrison’s 1971 Concert for Bangladesh.
Leon Russell’s solo songs yielded limited success, but Leon Russell had written songs for others became hit. Leon Russell songs (lyrics) which became hit include “Superstar”, which was co-written with Bonnie Bramlett. “A Song For You” song has been covered by Donny, Christina Aguilera. Leon Russell performed Elvis Presley classic “Heartbreak Hotel” along with Willie Nelson & it became country hit in 1979.
Leon Russell tour dates: During ’80s, Leon Russell was on tour & performed on live & studio albums, which includes 1984’s country disc Hank Wilson Vol. II. Leon teamed up with Bruce Hornsby for movie ‘Anything Can Happen.’
Leon achieved Grammy award in 2001 for his teamwork with Earl Scruggs & friends on “Foggy Mountain Breakdown.” In 2003, Russell performed “A Song for You” along with Willie & Ray Charles, at Willie’s 70th birthday bash at Beacon Theatre in New York.

LEON …. wow …. this guy BELONGS in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Maybe this will wake up those who vote before we see him on a “les paul like” clip. Honor the man who has touched our music in so many ways ASAP.
Zach was also great in concert in NYC a few months ago. He shared the stage with several talented friends and rocked the house. Looking forward to their next CD.
