Eid
The eve of EId-e-Milad is observed on 12th day of 3rd month of Rabi-ul-Awwal. It is decided as per Islamic calendar. This year it is falling on 27th Feb, 2010.
The day is celebrated in the remembrance of birth & death anniversary of Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). Both oh his ceremonies falls on one day. The word ‘barah‘ is used to describe the period of 12 days in which Holy Prophet suffered from his long time illness.
Sermons & Koranic texts relating to the life of Holy Prophet are read out in the mosques in the period of 12 days which falls before the eve of Eid. [smartads]
In a number of states of Indo-Pak, a sandal ceremony is carried out on the symbolic footprints of the Prophet which are carved on the stone kept in a richly decorated casket. In it a depiction of Buraq (Holy Prophet’s horse) is also set aside close to the footprints.
In the remembrance of last days of Prophet, Elegies are sung by the devotees.
People wish their friends & loveones through eid Mubarak messages, cards of eid & eid sms. They spend their full day in the prayers & wishing “Eid mubarak” to their knownones.
They wear new cloths on this day & go to mosques for ‘Namaz’.
