Anil Ambani group’s appeal has been rejected by the Supreme Court today for cheaper gas from Mukesh Ambani on grounds of a family accord, saying the government had the sovereign right on cost and use of fuel.

A 3 judge bench led by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan sated that the Ambani family Memorandum of understanding that seeks to split gas between firms of Ambani brothers was not obligatory, both legally as well as technically.

The Memorandum of understanding is component of the Ambani family settlement attained in the year 2005 in June to divide the RIL Company between Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani.
