Australia vs England
England claimed their first T20 World Cup title after defeating Ashes rival Australia by 7 wickets at Bridgetown. The English chased the target of 148 successfully with great inputs from Craig Kieswetter and Kevin Pietersen. With three overs to spare, they sealed their victory after an outstanding bowling as well as batting display.
Australians fell prey to he English bowling in the early stage itself that reduced them to a pathetic 8 for 3. Though Hussey brothers offered some relief scoring 47 runs in their partnership, they could not exceed a total of 147. England, on the other hand took out terrific bowling form with players such as Ryan Sidebottom and Graeme Swann. On the batting front it seemed cakewalk for England as Kieswetter (63) and Pietersen (47) managed a match winning partnership for the second wicket. Australian bowling was left completely toothless despite several experiments by Clarke to save the runs from flowing.
For England, this is a major victory to celebrate after a dry run for quite a long time. Meanwhile for Australia it is an occasion for introspection as to what went wrong after their terrific unbeaten run in the tournament so far. Was it overconfidence, or did they took the Ashes rival lightly? Or was it just a bad day? Whatever the reason, it has costed them heavily in the 20-20 from of cricket.
