NEW DELHI (DLN), 24th May 2010: Explaining Naxalism as the most big interior defense challenge for the nation, Manmohan Singh (Indian PM) on Monday told the Central government must assist the states to handle with this specific danger.
PM revealed at a national press conference “This is a problem which has acquired (such a) magnitude that cooperation between the Centre and states is absolutely necessary and the Central government must help states in every possible way.”
But, Manmohan told law & order situation was initially the state government’s responsibility. He further told “As far as I am concerned, I do recognise that law and order is primarily a state responsibility.”
Inquired over P Chidambaram’s (Home Minister) quote that he had a restricted permission in handling the Maoists, Manmohan Singh told that the minister had previously explained what he had signified by his quote on the matter. On the whole, Singh told Naxalism is the most challengeable issue for the entire nation & Central Government must aid the states to tackle this hazard.
