More than 30 people were saved by a customs ship off Australia’s north-west coast.

The boat was carrying 35 passengers. The boat was taking the people from an asylum to Christmas Island for their health, identity and security checks.

The customs ship spotted the boat in danger at south west of Scott Reef.

All the members on the board are now safe, but still their identity has not been reported. They are, however, likely to belong to Sri Lanka or Afganistan.

The MV Oceanic Viking, which did the heroic act is an armed patrol vessel. The vessel belongs to the Australian Customs Service.
