The undisputed king of Hindi cinema parted with the beloved title ‘Robot’ he had inscribed under Red Chillies, on Shankar’s request who due to creative differences made the movie starring Aishwarya and Rajnikant instead of Shah Rukh Khan.
The director worked on the project with SRK for months together only to fall out and Shah Rukh disgustingly broke ties with both Shankar and the movie which was to be titled ‘Robot’. He went on to proclaim he had nothing to do with ‘Robot’ clearly showing his aversion.
This was the situation 2 years ago and then Shahrukh got busy with his home production Om Shanti Om, a big budget extravaganza with elements of spoof on the 70s and reincarnation which was well-taken by the audience.
SRK’s wish to act in a Superhero movie remained intact and he now has Ra.One in the pipeline which stars the scintillating size-zero Kareena Kapoor.
Shankar on the other hands looked homeward and not forgetting his pet project cast the southern sensation ‘Rajnikant’ with ‘Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’ a winning combination nonetheless for the movie, called ‘Endhiran’ in Tamil version. Now finding himself in a fix for a Hindi name because the name ‘Robot’ was still a property of Red Chillies, he decided to write a letter to the Badshah of Bollywood. Shankar acknowledged the Superstar’s kindheartedness saying “It is very nice of Shah Rukh to give us the title. It was registered with him company Red Chillies.”
The King showed no reluctance and graciously agreed to give the rights and thus the repugnance vanished between the two.
Though ‘Robot’ and ‘Ra.One’ are based on quite similar lines in terms of storyline, Shah Rukh Khan is bound to surprise us with his penchant for moviemaking.
